Part House Renovation – West Wittering

Brief

  • All the ground floor walls were damp (due to rising damp and incorrectly installed window lintels)
  • Refurb downstairs
  • Move laundry room
  • Fit a new kitchen
  • Add an outdoor shower

Overview

The first area we had to tackle was the damp problems. When the house was built the lintels were incorrectly fitted and the cavity trays were put in wrong. Once these were removed we then found that the cavity was bridged which meant water was able to percolate from outside to inside the house. After clearing the cavities, we replaced the lintels and cavity trays and then injected the whole building with a damp proof course finally protecting it from the elements. We then stripped away all the render on the upper half of the house which was damaged from the previous damp problems and then rendered and repainted whole house.
We solved the last of the damp problems by taking down the chimney and totally rebuilding it with a lead tray to stop it leaking.

Inside we did the following:

  • removed all the plaster that was damaged from the damp and re-plastered
  • added a couple of downlight and extra switches
  • new radiators throughout downstairs
  • repainted entire downstairs
  • new skirting and architraves
  • moved laundry room to make space for a new entrance to the house and fitted a wooden Dale door from Covers
  • fitted a Howdens kitchen
  • tiled the laundry and kitchen
  • installed a new boiler with a mega flow tank suitable for family life

Finally outside we fitted an outside shower (with a long guarantee against corrosion – essential in this seaside location)
