Garage Conversion & Garden Room // West Wittering

OVERVIEW

To create a more functional garage space to link to a new garden room, whilst retaining the character of the original house.

  • insulate the garage room
  • partition off an area in garage for a bathroom
  • strengthen the garage roof to support solar panels
  • build a small extension to the rear for a garden room with a feature lantern roof light leading onto a flagstone patio
  • link the garage and garden with a boot room, finished with a tiled floor
  • build a grand entrance porch by front door and lay stone pavers

START OF PROJECT

  • This is a new doorway through to the boot room which leads onto the back garden
  • In the garden we installed a soak well to deal with all the extra run off water from the flat roofs
  • The existing garage roof is being strengthened to support a solar panel system
  • Inside the garage we have build a small WC in the far corner
  • The rear windows of the garage have been blocked in ready for new garden room extension off the back

  • Inside the garden room is 2.4 x 1.8m lantern roof light which will flood the space with natural light
  • The roof is being finished off with detailed cornice edges

NEAR COMPLETION

  • Inside the garage is the finished cloakroom
  • "perfect for our grandchildren coming straight from the beach" say the homeowners
  • Compact sinks are perfect for small cloakrooms like this
  • This is the newly created utility/bootroom space to connect the garage with the garden
  • A composite back door leading to the garden patio
  • Simple wood shelves and a bench make this a very functional boot room
  • Both these extensions are weathering nicely with the original brickwork

  • On the roof we have added some trim to give to look of a lead finish
  • Great to see the homeowners using this space so well already despite it only being early spring.

  • Today the large paving stones are being laid outside the front door and we have recently finished the rubber roof which is hard wearing and long lasting
